Darien, CT - Lorie Barber and Joy King Lutes recently joined the Board of Directors for Turning Wine into Water, a 501 (c) (3) public charity based out of Darien, Connecticut, whose mission is making clean water available to some of the world’s poorest populations.

“We are pleased to welcome Lorie and Joy as the newest additions to our Board of Directors. Their experience and expertise will no doubt be of value in our efforts to alter some of the horrible statistics on the availability of clean water in Africa,” said Nicholas Troilo, President of Turning Wine into Water. “The fact that as many as 26,000 children under the age of 5 die every day because they lack access to clean water is deplorable. But what is even worse is that every single one of these deaths is preventable. Turning Wine into Water will continue its efforts in 2011 and beyond to improve the lives of these people by providing resources to dig wells and present them with access to clean water.”

Turning Wine into Water was founded in 2005 by Nicholas Troilo, who also founded and continues as a consultant to Nicholas Roberts Fine Wine Merchants in Darien. Troilo was alarmed by the harsh realities faced by families in Africa who lacked access to clean water.  He and his two sons/business partners, Robert and Peter, began contributing a portion of wine sales from special events and Wine of the Month memberships to the construction of a clean water well in Zambia. With that act, Turning Wine into Water was born. Since its inception, the organization has helped over 5,500 people gain access to clean water.

“I am honored to join the Board of Directors for Turning Wine into Water,” Lutes said. “I look forward to having the opportunity to work with other Board Members in providing solutions to this completely solvable problem.”

Barber currently serves as Special Counsel to Wm. Polk Carey at W.P. Carey and Co., Inc. in New York City, New York. Originally from Sewickley, Pennsylvania, she is a graduate of Sewickley Academy, Smith College and NY Law School.

Lutes is a Public Relations Consultant in Washington, D.C. Originally from the Marietta, Ohio area, she is a graduate of Parkersburg High School and Wheeling Jesuit University in Wheeling, West Virginia.
